Itunes Not Opening Mac

Jan 14, 2019 Generally, the iTunes not opening error occurs probably because your Mac computer is installing an update to iTunes. You cannot open iTunes unless the process is finished. Sometimes the update has been taking longer than expected, this can be as a result of the unstable network connectivity and the huge size of the update being installed. ITunes is the app you think of for backups and syncs, and those capabilities will exist with Catalina, just not in the Apple Music app. You'll find them by opening the Finder tool in Mac.

Q: iTunes won't open on my Windows PC! When I press 'Ctrl-Alt-Del'and open Windows Task Manager, I can see iTunes running under 'Processes', but the program itself never appears... I've tried reinstalling and PC rebooting, nothing works. What should I do?

Solutions:

● End all iTunes related processes in Windows Task Manager and reopen iTunes. (If it fails, try removing the SC Info foler).
● Restart Windows based PC or laptop and then open iTunes at several minutes after all programs are fully loaded.
● Open iTunes by right clicking (not double clicking) the icon and 'Run as administrator'.
● Open iTunes in safe mode by pressing Ctrl + Shift, or with anti-virus software, firewall and Internet disabled.
● Empty iTunes library file located in MusiciTunes by directly deleting or moving to other path. (If it works, do remember to rebuild the library later.)
● Update/Uninstall Quicktime or repair Quicktime by Start -> Control Panel -> Programs n Features -> Quicktime -> right click to choose ('Change' and then) 'Repair'. (for Windows 7/XP/Vista)
● Remove iTunes and all of its residual components, and then do a clean reinstallation. >>Check all iTunes components

● Do the system restore.

Sometimes iTunes not opening happens with 'Cannot Open iTunes' error message of 'another user has it open' showing up. In this case, you should make sure the iTunes opened in other profile is closed, and only have one profile to start iTunes at a time.

iTunes is known to have bugs and errors that keep occurring from time to time, making the entire experience of iPhone file management and file transfer a hassle. One of these issues occurs when iTunes tries to update to a newer version. This error prevents users from launching iTunes by showing a message 'iTunes cannot be opened while it is being updated'. This problem occurs relatively more on Mac than on Windows.

How to Fix 'iTunes cannot be opened while it is being updated' on Mac?

Following are some effective solutions. You can try them one by one until the problem is solved.

1. Uninstall and Reinstall iTunes on Mac

Completely uninstalling and then reinstalling iTunes usually solves iTunes-related issues. It is recommended that you install the latest version after uninstalling iTunes. And if you already have the latest version, then resetting its settings might help. In any case, you will need to uninstall the software completely. A complete uninstallation of iTunes will delete your user settings, playlists, etc.

Apple does not make it easy to uninstall softwares, especially iTunes. So the process requires some extra steps.

Step 1. Simply drag the iTunes icon from desktop and drop it into Trash.

  • If you can’t proceed with the above mentioned method, then go to Applications folder, right-click the iTunes.app file, and click Get Info.
  • Once the information is displayed, click the padlock icon and type in your Admin Password.
  • Navigate to Sharing & Permissions and set ‘everyone’ to Read & Write. Now you will be able to uninstall iTunes via dragging its icon into Trash.

Step 2. Once the iTunes icon is in Trash. Empty it.
